The Widow - Concept

The widow was cast out from her family when her husband died, branded as the carrier of misfortune, until she was taken away to an island of gathered Untouchables. After suffering in secret as a concubine to the 'benevolent' ruler of the island, the widow escapes, fueled by rage against the society that destroyed her life for something she had no control over, and against the man who abused her and countless others masked as an act of mercy.
I wanted a pirate queen from South East Asia with different motives to the usual. She's in white to show off her widowhood as a banner of rebellion, combined with her jewelry and over the red and black of her top and dhoti. The white and her tilak are a sign of her purity and asexuality, that she refuses to be sullied by men ever again. Not interested in wealth, she wants vengeance and to bring down the ruler of the island she was taken to, by hook or crook. Her jewelry serves a dual purpose - aesthetic and so her blows have extra bite.
